How many sessions of Laser Hair removal will I need?

How Many Sessions of Laser Hair removal will I need?

This is most common question we have in our consultations at Aqua-Tox but unfortunately its not a one size fits all answer.
Various factors can affect results and how many sessions you require to achieve long lasting permanent hair reduction.

Laser Hair removal facts

Hair Cycles
Not all hair is active at one time. Lasers can only target hair in the growth phase therefore multiple sessions are needed to catch hair in the growth stage. You may walk out of session one thinking wow I’ve had a massive reduction, I won’t need many more, but only around 15% of body hair is in its growth stage at any given time.
You will need multiple sessions to capture as many hair cycles as possible – usually this is a minimum of 6 sessions.

Hair Colour
Darker hair does respond to laser better as more energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. If you have fine or light hair whilst this can still be picked up by our Soprano Titanium Laser, generally more sessions may be needed.

Treatment Area
Area with thicker hair usually respond quicker than areas with finer hair, so areas such as legs and underarms usually require less sessions than face or arms.

Skin Tone
Soprano Laser Hair removal uses multiple wavelengths to target hair at different depths of the skin and also can safely target hair on darker skin tones using NgYag laser. This can penetrate deep into the skin bypassing surface melanin, so can effectively treat those with darker skin tones and tanned skin. The great news with this laser is you dont have to stop your laser hair removal treatments in the summer.

Hormones
Hormone imbalances or changes can stimulate hair growth which may mean more sessions are needed to achieve the results you want. If you suffer with hormone disorders, please always inform your laser practitioner at your consultation, so we are able to advise further.
Pregnancy and menopause can also stimulate hair growth so you may need additional sessions to maintain your hair reduction. (You cannot have laser hair removal treatments during pregnancy and we recommend waiting until 3 months after pregnancy and breastfeeding before starting or resuming laser hair removal).

Taking into account all these factors and individual responses to laser typically we see the following sessions are needed for the majority of clients:
Face: 8-12 sessions (less for thicker hairs higher end for finer hairs)
Underarms: 6-8 sessions
Legs: 6-8 sessions
Arms 8-10 sessions
Bikini: 8-12 sessions
Back/Chest: 6-8 sessions

Will I need top-ups?

Yes, we normally advise clients they would need annual or bi-annual top ups to remove any fine hair growth. For some clients they may not feel this is necessary, but some Genetic factors and Hormonal changes may require you to have a maintenance session.
At Aqua-Tox we have special rate maintenance sessions once you have completed your courses with us.

So what are the major benefits of laser hair removal?

– Longer term solution of hair removal
– Less pain than waxing
– Less irritation than shaving
– Smoother skin feeling for longer periods of time
– Clearer, brighter skin with less dark patches and less noticeable follicles
– Less time commitment than shaving every couple of days

Modern types of Laser Hair Removal such as our Soprano Titanium which uses multiple wavelengths of light energy, are more efficient and save significant time in treatment sessions, so a full body- top to toe- laser hair removal appointment can be completed in as little as 90 mins.  It is generally less painful than previous Lasers such as IPL and is tolerated well by the majority of clients. With the added benefit of being able to treat tanned skin and all skin tones, laser sessions can be completed throughout the year including summer time.

The majority of clients who start laser hair removal never look back, and whilst its a financial commitment up front, the benefits our clients see are significant and in some cases life changing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser hair removal is a proven method to reduce/remove hair growth from the body. At Aqua-Tox we use the award-winning Soprano Titanium Laser Hair Removal machine which is a clinically tested, virtually painless laser and also the safest laser hair removal method for all skin types, including dark and tanned skin.

It is the alternative to epilation, shaving creams, razor shaving or waxing.

The laser from the machine emits ‘light’ energy, which targets the hairs. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light, allowing the heat to travel down the hair follicles that lie beneath the surface of the skin using medical-grade laser. This destroys the root of the hair and the interconnectors connecting it to the blood supply, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. As a result, preventing the regrowth of more hair while giving lasting results of smooth skin. The Soprano Titanium uses 3 laser wavelengths which help treat a variety of hair and skin tones; Alexandrite 755nm especially for light coloured and thin hair, Speed 810nm for fast and effective treatment time and YAG 1064nm which is specialised for darker skin tones.

The Soprano Titanium uses a superior technology which is clinically tested and virtually painless. It uses a unique cooling system called Ice Plus which cools your skin throughout the treatment if needed. The Ice Plus also minimises the risk of burns whilst maintaining heat deep within, where the hair follicles are treated. During your treatment, our therapist will work with you to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

The Soprano Titanium Laser Hair Removal system allows us to perform effective laser hair removal on most hair colourswith the exception of red and white hair.

Before starting any treatment we will perform a consultation and patch test to assess your skin & hair and ensure you are suitable for treatment.

Your laser hair removal treatment and required patch test will both take place at our clinic in Hertford, Hertfordshire. We have a specialised laser treatment room, waiting area and parking close by. We are situated within easy reach of the A10, A414 and A602 making us easily reachable from many surrounding towns including Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage and St Albans.

Usually four to six weeks on the face and six to eight weeks on the body. The gap matters, because the laser only affects hairs in their active growth phase. Treating too soon simply wastes a session. Your practitioner sets your spacing at consultation and adjusts it as you go.

Yes, provided the area has not been recently tanned and stays covered or protected with high-factor sun cream afterwards. Soprano Titanium is safer on tanned skin than older lasers, but a fresh tan still raises the risk of burns and pigment change. We check your skin before every session.

It depends how many areas you are having. A single small area such as underarms takes about ten minutes. A three area appointment takes around 45 minutes. We confirm your appointment length when you book, so you know exactly how much time to allow on the day.

Yes. Bronze covers three areas at £1,450, Silver four areas at £1,850, Gold five areas at £2,200 and Platinum six areas at £2,400. Which areas you combine is up to you, and we work out the best value option at your consultation. There is also a £100 refer a friend offer.

Yes. Laser hair removal is not absorbed into the bloodstream and does not affect milk. Hormonal changes after pregnancy can cause temporary extra growth, so results may be less predictable in the early months. Pregnancy itself is different and we do not treat during it.

Unfortunately we cannot perform laser hair removal treatment during pregnancy, however we can treat after childbirth once your hormones have settled. We advise waiting around 6 months to ensure your hormones are fully settled and will not interrupt your levels of hair growth.

There are no studies to show any risk of having laser hair removal treatment whilst breastfeeding but we don’t personally recommend it as the hormones are not settled and we would not be able to guarantee results. However, if you decide to take a break from laser hair treatments whilst breastfeeding, it will not effect your results and we can continue your course when you are ready.

Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation or darker pigmentation. We strongly recommend an SPF30 + to be applied over the treated area throughout the course of your treatment. Avoid using sun beds 4 weeks after treatment and do not use any other removal treatment methods such as waxing, tweezing or electrolysis as it will disturb the hair follicle at the treatment area. We do however recommend that you exfoliate the treatment area as this will help the removal process. Avoid hot baths and heat treatments for the first 48 hours.
