Sports Massage FAQs
Who can benefit from a sports massage?
Sports massage tends to target injuries and typically are deeper massages than those offered as part of every day tension relief. The aim of a sports massage will be to help you recover or assist in greater flexibility. For this reason sports massages are performed at a higher pressure to target deeper into muscles so may cause some discomfort.
When should I book a sports massage?
You can book as part of a regular maintenance or as part of a rehab programme. Most athletes require a sports massage at least once a week alongside a training programme but most gym goers tend to benefit from a massage every other week or monthly. If you have a specific injury our therapists can advise on a treatment plan.
What should I wear for a sports massage?
The therapist will need to assess and be able to access the site of injury so as little clothes as possible around this area is best. We have towels to help you feel more comfortable and covered during the session.
Is the session customisable to a problem area?
Yes if you have tightness or an injury we can customise the massage to you. If you are under treatment with a doctor or specialist it is important you seek their advise before treatment. We may need written consent from your medical practitioner before a massage can take place.
Can I book a sports massage package?
Yes we offer packages of sports massage depending on needs with discounted prices.
Can I have sports massage alongside another treatment?
Can I exercise after a sports massage?
The answer to this depends on the output you are looking to achieve. We do offer pre-event sports massages which help relieve muscle tension which are suitable for use before an event or training. If you have an injury we would likely recommend not training straight after the massage.
What's the difference between a sports massage and a regular massage?
A sports massage is typically more focused on treating specific injuries or addressing areas of tension related to sporting activities. It often involves more vigorous techniques such as deep tissue manipulation, stretching, and friction to target deep-seated muscle knots and improve flexibility and range of motion. A Swedish massage is generally gentler and aims to promote relaxation and overall well-being. It involves long, flowing strokes, kneading, and circular movements to release muscle tension, improve circulation, and induce a sense of calm. While both massages offer therapeutic benefits, their techniques and goals cater to different needs and preferences.
For the ultimate recovery experience combine your massage with one of our recovery treatments such as whole-body cryotherapy, red light therapy or a session in our infrared sauna.
