We are proud to use the award-winning Harmony XL Pro laser system to deliver effective treatment of spider veins (also known as thread veins) on the face and body.
Spider veins are small clusters of red, blue, or purple veins that often appear on the legs and face. They can be a source of discomfort and self-consciousness for many but they can be treated quickly and safely using our advanced skin laser.
The process of spider vein removal using a laser is fast, effective and non invasive making it a popular option with many. We can treat spider veins and thread veins across the face and body. Common treatment areas include; cheeks, around the nose and upper thighs.
Depending on the size and severity of the spider veins you may need multiple treatments to reduce the appearance of the vein to a point where it is no longer visible at all.
To begin treatment you will need to book a laser skin consultation and patch test to ensure the treatment is safe and suitable for your skin.
How does spider vein treatment work?
We use a long pulse thermal laser (LP YAG) technology to effectively reduce the appearance of spider veins through a targeted approach that delivers precise bursts of energy to the affected blood vessels. When the LP YAG laser is directed at the spider veins, the energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood, causing the blood vessel walls to collapse and seal shut. As a result, the treated veins gradually fade from view over time, typically within a few weeks, as the body naturally reabsorbs and eliminates the damaged vessels. Additionally, the LP YAG laser’s longer wavelength allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin, specifically targeting the spider veins while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. This selective targeting and gentle heating of the veins make LP YAG laser therapy a safe and effective option for reducing the appearance of spider veins with minimal discomfort and downtime.
Spider Vein Treatment Results
These before and after images all show results of spider vein removal after only a single treatment. In all cases the appearance of the vein/veins is greatly reduced. To entirely remove the appearance of these veins multiple treatments will be required spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
Spider Vein Treatment Process
When having spider vein treatment at Aqua-Tox you can expect the following stages during treatment.
- An initial consultation appointment to asses your skin concerns, answer any questions, and perform a patch test to ensure you have no reaction to the treatment.
- To complete a detailed medical questionnaire and follow pre-care advice ahead of your treatment
- To have some photos taken of your face before beginning treatment in order to be able to assess results.
- Cleaning of the treatment area to ensure there is no product on the skin.
- To be required to wear protective glasses to protect your eyes during the laser treatment.
- You may experience some redness and mild discomfort similar to sunburn following treatment. It is important to follow the pre care and aftercare advise given in order to minimise these effects. It is very important to ensure you use SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure.
- Further photos will be taken after the treatment to show immediate skin condition and results.
- You will be able to return to your day following treatment but may want to stay at home if possible due to redness. It will also be important to be gentle with your skin and avoid heat or exercise that could cause the blood vessels to dilate for 48 hours.

Spider Vein Treatment FAQs
Why do I need a consultation?
It is important for us to have an initial consultation and patch test to ensure the treatment will be safe and effective for your skin. It will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have about the treatment.
Is spider vein removal painful?
No spider vein removal using the LP YAG laser is not painful. As each burst of laser energy is delivered you may feel a 'zap' but most people do not find this uncomfortable. After the treatment you may experience some localised heat in the treatment area that feels similar to sunburn but this will calm quickly.
Which is better laser or sclerotherapy?
Determining whether laser therapy or sclerotherapy is better for spider vein treatment depends on various factors, including the size and location of the veins, individual preferences, and access to treatment.
Laser therapy, such as LP YAG laser treatment, offers a non-invasive approach to spider vein removal, making it appealing to those who prefer to avoid injections or are concerned about potential discomfort. Laser therapy is particularly effective for smaller spider veins and those located close to the skin's surface.
On the other hand, sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and eventually fade from view. Sclerotherapy is often preferred for larger spider veins or those that are located deeper beneath the skin's surface. While it may involve some discomfort during the injection process, sclerotherapy is generally well-tolerated and can produce excellent results.
The choice of which treatment to undergo will ultimately be a personal choice and depend on individual factors including size & depth of veins, cost and access to treatment.
Do spider veins need to be removed?
No, most spider veins are harmless and reasons for removing them are usually cosmetic.
If you have any concerns about your spider veins we recommend that you see your doctor before seeking removal treatment.
Can you fix spider veins on legs?
Using our LP YAG laser we are able to tread thread veins and spider veins on the legs as long as they are above the knee.
Unfortunately the treatment is not suitable for veins behind or below the knee.
How long does it take to remove spider veins?
The treatment process itself is very quick and small areas can be treated in as little as a 15 minute appointment.
To reduce the appearance of spider veins to a point where they are no longer visible may require more than one treatment. Treatments can be taken every 6-8 weeks to allow for healing time between sessions. At the beginning of each appointment the therapist will assess your results and advise on how well they think the vein has responded to treatment.
How many laser treatments do I need on spider veins?
This will be different for each individual and depend on a number of factors. Most people will need more than one session to reduce the vein to a point where is is no longer visible.
Treatments can be taken every 6-8 weeks to allow for healing time between sessions.
Is there any downtime with spider vein removal?
You may experience some mild discomfort and redness following treatment. It is also important to avoid heat and exercise that could dilate the blood vessels for 48 hours following treatment. As with all laser treatments it is important to avoid direct sunlight and wear a high SPF daily following treatment.
