iPixel laser skin resurfacing is a type of fractional ablative laser treatment used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin.
It is commonly used to address issues such as wrinkles, fine lines, scarring, large pores and uneven skin tone & texture. The iPixel treatment can be used to resurface the whole face or smaller areas of concern on the face and body.
What can iPixel laser skin resurfacing treat?
iPixel can be used to address a variety of skin conditions across the face, neck and body including:
- Deep lines & signs of ageing
- Uneven skin tone & texture
- Large pores
- Skin laxity
- Scarring
- Acne scarring
- Surgery & injury scars
- Superficial pigmentation
How does iPixel laser resurfacing work?
iPixel uses a specialised fractional laser system that delivers a precise and controlled laser beam to the skin’s surface. It creates thousands of tiny, evenly spaced microthermal zones, also known as “pixels.” The laser energy is applied in a fractionated pattern, only creating micro wounds to a fraction of the skin at a time. This allows the surrounding healthy skin to remain undamaged, which promotes faster healing and minimizes downtime. The micro-wounds created by the laser stimulate the body’s natural healing response which promotes the production of new collagen and elastin via a process known as neo-collagenesis.
Collagen and elastin are essential components in our skin, responsible for it’s elasticity, firmness and texture. As the skin heals following treatment and new collagen forms the skins surface becomes smoother, skin tone is evened and fine lines, wrinkles and scarring are visibly reduced.
Laser Resurfacing Treatment Process
Consultation & Patch Test
Before beginning iPixel treatment it is essential to have a skin laser consultation and patch test appointment. During this appointment we will discuss your skin concerns, assess your skin for treatment suitability and perform a laser patch test. At this appointment the therapist will also advise you on the treatment pre care advice to ensure that your skin is in the ideal condition to begin iPixel resurfacing.
Laser Treatment
For an iPixel laser appointment you should arrive with clean, dry make up free skin. The therapist will help you to get comfortable on the treatment couch and provide you with light blocking goggles to protect your eyes from the laser. As the treatments starts you may see and smell ‘burning’ as the laser creates micro-wounds to the skin. This is usually not painful and the therapist will check in with you throughout to see how you are finding the sensation.
Aftercare
Once the treatment is complete you will likely experience some redness and heat in the skin. The therapist will apply suitable cooling products to the skin and advise you on how to look after your skin for the rest of the day. You will also be provided with a comprehensive aftercare advice sheet to follow for the 2 weeks following treatment to ensure you get the best results from your treatment.
What does your face look like after laser resurfacing?
iPixel laser resurfacing has some downtime as you will experience redness and mild swelling following the treatment. This will look and feel very similar to sunburn and needs to be cared for similarly.
In the 24-48 hours following treatment this redness and swelling will reduce and you will start to see fractionated pattern markings on the skin in the areas that the laser has treated.
By day 7-10 your skin will have cleared and you will notice immediate changed such as reduction in pore size and a more even skin tone.
Further results will continue to emerge over the coming weeks and months as the skin regenerates and new collagen and elastin are formed.

This image shows the face 3 days after the laser resurfacing treatment. The redness has subsided and the pixel markings made by the laser are now visible.
This image shows the face 7 days after laser resurfacing. The skin appears clear and pore size is visibly reduced. Results will continue to develop further over the coming weeks.

What will my skin look like following iPixel laser resurfacing?
There will be some downtime from this treatment such as slight redness and swelling immediately following treatment. The after-effects of laser resurfacing can feel similar to sunburn. You may also see small grid like marks in the areas treated where the laser beam has treated your skin, this is normal and to be expected. These marks may darken in the days following treatment but will quickly heal and disappear if the correct aftercare advice is followed. The remarkable skin resurfacing results will start to become apparent from around 7 days and continue to develop over the next month as the collagen renews under the skins surface.
Is iPixel laser treatment safe?
Yes, iPixel laser skin resurfacing is safe and effective. We use the Harmony XL Pro laser system which is industry leading technology and FDA approved. The iPixel treatment is carried out by specially trained and insured clinicians. A prior consultation and patch test are also required to ensure safety and effectiveness.
How many laser resurfacing treatments will I need?
For maximum results we recommend a course of 2-4 treatments. The treatments must be taken at least 4 weeks apart to ensure that your skin has had time to heal fully from the previous treatment. Your therapist can discuss treatment courses with you at the time of consultation or following your first treatment.
Can I go in the sun following a fractional laser treatment?
No, we recommend that you avoid direct sun exposure both prior to and post treatment. Sun exposure can interfere with the laser treatment and cause hyperpigmentation. We advise all of our clients to wear a minimum SPF 30 all year round but pre and post laser skin treatments it is advisable to wear SPF 50 such as Obagi Sun Sheild which can be purchased in the clinic.
Does laser skin resurfacing hurt?
iPixel resurfacing is not typically painful but you may experience a heat sensation. The therapist will check throughout the treatment that you are comfortable.
Following treatment you are likely to experience some discomfort, much like sunburn which can be reduced by applying ice packs to the treated area. This will usually subside within 1-2 days following treatment.
How much does laser resurfacing cost?
Treatments range from £85 - £350 per single laser resurfacing session. The price is calculated based on the size of the area to be treated and the time in treatment. Courses of treatment are available which include a discount. Full prices can be seen here.
What is an alternative to laser skin resurfacing?
A great alterative to laser skin resurfacing is laser skin rejuvenation. Laser skin rejuvenation has less downtime and healing time and can be used to treat milder variations of many of the skin conditions treated by laser resurfacing.
Is iPixel the same as Fraxel?
Pixel and Fraxel are both laser skin resurfacing treatments that can be used to treat many of the same skin concerns such as scarring and fine lines & wrinkles. iPixel laser treatment is typically considered to be more comfortable and have less downtime than Fraxel.
What is the difference between laser resurfacing and co2 resurfacing?
Co2 resurfacing is a type of laser resurfacing. Instead of an Erbium: YAG laser, as used in the iPixel, co2 resurfacing utilises a co2 laser. Co2 lasers are often considered to achieve faster results than Erbium:YAG lasers however are often not as well tollerated by those undergoing treatment. Co2 laser resurfacing is reported to be more painful and result in longer downtime following treatment than Erbium:YAG laser treatments such as iPixel.
Does laser resurfacing work on scarring?
Yes iPixel laser skin resurfacing is an ideal treatment option to reduce the appearance of scarring on the face and body. The treatment stimulates the body's natural healing response which promotes the production of new collagen and elastin. As new collagen forms the surface of the skin becomes smoother and more even in tone and texture.
